Hi, my name is Nicki Calfee and I couldn't be
more excited to be spending the year in classroom 1B as Head Teacher!
In addition to teaching at Buckle, I am currently working towards a master's degree in Early Childhood Education/ Development and Special Education. I have been fortunate to work with professionals both affiliated with Bank Street School of Early Childhood Education and that of Sarah Lawrence College. Part of what I love about teaching and being a student of teducation in NYC specifically, is the very progressive and creative attitudes and individuals affiliated with the field, working fervently to learn more about truly great educational experiences and techniques.
I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, and will always be a Midwestern gal at heart! At an early age I began dancing, singing, and acting. Because of my lasting and deeply rooted love for these art forms, I went on to obtain a BFA in Musical Theater from Syracuse University as my undergraduate degree. There's something special my theater degree has given me that allows me to freely play with and engage children. I find a lot of joy in deciphering the patterns of a child’s behavior and finding ways I can relate to a child in order to better serve them as an educator and caretaker.
I also enjoy photography, hiking, riding
my bike along the Hudson, going to the movies, baking, sewing, and I have a
twin sister (see photo above)!
